Seasons
Handmade paper, plants, and branches - 2017
As the seasons change through the year the natural world changes, grows, and fades with plants and weather to mark its presence. This piece is a reflection of the changing seasons with handmade paper made from plants gathered through the year: spring wildflowers, red onion skin, black walnuts, to name a few. Suspended from the ceiling the branches hold clusters of these paper circles and it becomes its own quiet being, a gradient of colors, requesting nothing more from the viewer than perhaps a tree might ask in the woods.

A Note from the Artist
The process of installation work for me is slow and meditative at the beginning. The plants must be gathered and the paper must be created until there’s enough material to fill the space. Once the branches are found and prepped the piece can begin to come together. It grows and takes its own shape until it becomes the final form. Because the piece for most of its creation is not in its final form the end result can be strangely unfamiliar and I can be left at the end feeling as if it created itself, conducting my hands along the way.
